Traces

By SJ Harrold

when light peeked over the horizon
she bade the ocean swell
to birth a million shimmering diamonds
brightening my course in the fading darkness
I strolled placidly alongside the spectacle
my bare feet enveloped in her moist silty skin
that tugged on my every step
steeped in gratitude for this moment
I paused and turned about
to regard the tracks from her healing clasp
gentle surf lapped the shore
swallowing up what was left behind
the sole proof I was ever there
which mattered only to us

SJ Harrold is an attorney-at-law who resides on the North Shore of Massachusetts.
