{"id":9801,"date":"2022-01-30T17:26:37","date_gmt":"2022-01-30T23:26:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/faithhopeandfiction.com\/content\/?p=9801"},"modified":"2022-05-09T16:02:56","modified_gmt":"2022-05-09T21:02:56","slug":"places-faced-alone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/faithhopeandfiction.com\/content\/places-faced-alone\/","title":{"rendered":"Places, Faced Alone"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-two-poems-by-joseph-roque\"><strong><em>Two Poems by Joseph Roque<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-black-background-color has-black-color is-style-default\"\/>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-curtain-call\"><strong>Curtain Call<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Every day&#8217;s uproar is really<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>just a weak-kneed whisper.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Hearing is selective\u2500<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>anything left over no one hears;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>no one cares about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Concern becomes generic and uninspired,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>we are tired of the tragedies that stalk us<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>from birth, force on us a private pain wrapped<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>in public pageantry, our uniforms remorse,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>worn on cue, easily removed and washed,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>put away until our next curtain call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Eventually, all our ceremonies end, time<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>insists its way forward, unapologetic,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>pushes us out of the way, toward that<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>strange place we face alone\u2500<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>a thousand questions on our lips,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>begging for answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-becoming-new\"><strong><\/strong><strong>Becoming New<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Some days,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019d like to trade<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>myself in for someone new;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>someone capable and stable; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>still know<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>who I was<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and who I become.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Won\u2019t ignore past mistakes,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I need them to remind me<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>what not to say or do<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>so I won\u2019t<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>completely ruin the new me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Joe\u2019s poems have appeared in <em>Psychopoetica, Mad Swirl, Aphelion, Death Head Grin,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Poet\u2019s Haven, RagMag, <\/em>and <em>Cerebration.<\/em> His latest book is <em>Ashes And Excuses.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/faithhopeandfiction.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/free-online-fiction-poetry-art-e1608497702946.png\" alt=\"Faith Hope &amp;
