{"id":9788,"date":"2021-12-17T11:31:35","date_gmt":"2021-12-17T17:31:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/faithhopeandfiction.com\/content\/?p=9788"},"modified":"2023-12-21T12:57:23","modified_gmt":"2023-12-21T18:57:23","slug":"in-the-white-mountains","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/faithhopeandfiction.com\/content\/in-the-white-mountains\/","title":{"rendered":"In the White Mountains"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-poem-by-john-grey\"><strong><em>A Poem by John Grey<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-black-background-color has-black-color is-style-default\"\/>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Above the tree-line,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the climb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>breath and air<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>never more unalike,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>tufts of grass,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>otherwise bare,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>scattered stones<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>like old wise ones,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>hands blue,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>long legs shortening<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>like lungs,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>looking up,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a stuttering whistle<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>scrambling to<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the white-capped summit<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>in song,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a stroke of awe<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>anxious for a pen,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and down below,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>old oaks and maples,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>old world ablaze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>on a mountain ledge\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>this is as far as I go\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can climb no more<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>though I can write higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>John Grey <\/strong>is an Australian poet, U.S. resident.
