She smiles<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>at such brilliance, then<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>smooths her worn,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>grey cardigan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:32px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>She slips quietly among<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the seven deadly sins<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>invisible, patient<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>as they swagger, distract,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>but can never subtract her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She slides the fever<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>out of their pockets,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>makes it nourishing,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>gathers their wool<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>spins it into warm<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>winter clothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Carol Casey<\/strong> is a Canadian Pushcart Prize nominee.
