He\u2019s left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">My foundation\u2019s gone missing. Oh God, I\u2019m bereft.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">Perhaps I\u2019m looking in all the wrong places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">Un-focus your eyes, He\u2019s there in the spaces;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">Between the key in the hole and starting the engine<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">between hearing your lover and paying attention<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">in the silent appeal between the bing and the bong<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">of bells that peal weekly to come join the throng.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">In the grey of the grout of the train station walls<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">in the gaps on the tracks where life\u2019s detritus falls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">From lowering the baton to rapturous clapping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">The flow and the ebb of the ocean that\u2019s lapping<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">the tips of your toes as you dig them in deep<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">to the pebbly sand where you wish you could keep<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">walking for miles till the beach meets the sky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">It\u2019s the lurch in your stomach as the plane starts to fly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">It\u2019s the dream-addled gap between closed-eyes and waking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">The gasp between seeing the child and braking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">It\u2019s green amber red, and then red amber green,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">the space between seeing and having to be seen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">The battering pulse from anticipating<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">that moment, oh God, how long were you waiting<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">for your baby daughter to draw her first breath &#8211;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">the white space that separates us all from death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/faithhopeandfiction.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/free-online-fiction-poetry-art.png\" alt=\"Poetry, Essays, Art\" class=\"wp-image-5712\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap poetry-text\"><strong>Divine Office<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">Brings the pheasant in his finery, grockling to the silvered lawn outside,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">the blue tit to the creeper crocheted round my door.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">The blackbird in the acer chinks and churrs at the first snap of winter,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">the frost nipping the last of the flames from the branches.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">A congregation of spiders gathered overnight drape their lacy headscarves<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">from the top of the wooden window frame.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">An occasional leg-twitch echoes a suppressed cough in a cathedral.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">Warm inside the converted log store,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">tea freshly fetched from the quiet communal kitchen,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"poetry-text\">I watch the dawning prayer orange the sky above the mist-strewn valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/faithhopeandfiction.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/free-online-fiction-poetry-art.png\" alt=\"Poetry, Essays, Art\" class=\"wp-image-5712\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/faithhopeandfiction.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/two-poems-by-jay-caldwell-231x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Spaces &amp;
