    FOR A GOOD READ:

Read Kelli's list at Bibliobibuli - Thorough, interesting, and thought-provoking reviews that make you want to sit down and read:  http://www.bibliobibuli.com/p5BeenReading.html

Buy Local! Support your local bookstore. In Park Ridge, IL that's Burke's Books (which can also ship anywhere!)

Three Junes by Julia Glass - This award-winning novel captured me with its unusual characters and complex relationships. It's one of the most intriguing looks at a family that I've read recently.

Knit Together: Discover God's Pattern for Your Life by Debbie Macomber - One page of inspiration after the next, from a best-selling author who recalls with candor and grace the days when she struggled to achieve her dream.

Birds Without Wings by Louis De Bernieres. Recommended by Deb who says this book is more than a fascinating story of village life in rural Turkey against the historical backdrop of the fall of the Ottoman empire. It is one of the few novels that successfully shapes a story as told by different narrators.

West with the Night by Beryl Markham. Also recommended by Deb who says this memoir (her favorite genre) of richly colorful prose transports you to the passenger seat of Beryl's plane for a fantastic view of Africa.

Child of the Dark by Carolina Maria de Jesus (another one of Deb's picks) is the actual diary of a single mother living in the slums of San Paulo Brazil. She scratches out a lliving by collecting garbage until one day her passion for writing opens the door for her to another life.

The Street of a Thousand Blossoms by Gail Tsukiyama (recommended by Diane) who says this is yet another wonderful read by this author (so good, Diane says, she didn't want it to end). Set in Japan before, during and after WWII.
